The winner of the SA Pub Burger Challenge 2011 was Franzon’s Hilton Hotel, Hilton.
Nine hotel finalists cooked off live at the SA Hotel & Restaurant Trade Show at the Adelaide Showground.
Although the competition was tight, Chef Jim Colley from the Hilton Hotel at Hilton, wowed the expert panel of judges in the end, with his 300 gram premium wagyu beef burger.
“All of the finalist’s burgers were of a terrific standard today, and it was hard to pick a winner,” said one of the judges, Roger Bond from Meat and Livestock Australia.
“But quite simply, it was the fantastic flavour of the Hilton Hotel’s burger which was the winning factor.
“The presentation was also outstanding, with condiments served on the side, giving customers some choice about what to add to their burger.”
James Franzon, licensee of the Hilton Hotel at Hilton said he was ecstatic with their win.
“The standard was very high, and we are so pleased that we were able to win against such worthy competitors,” he said.
The other finalists were the Bedford Hotel, in Woodside; Daniel O’Connell Hotel, in North Adelaide; Duke of York Hotel, in Adelaide; Links Hotel, in Seaton; OG Hotel, in Klemzig; Robin Hood Hotel, in Norwood; Wellington Hotel, in North Adelaide and William Creek Hotel, in William Creek.
Winning recipe: 300gms of premium wagyu beef on a focaccia bun, double smoked bacon, free range egg, onion jam, cheese, tomato, lettuce. Side condiments.
